Your phone already comes to the course with you. In Episode 13 of the Jetta podcast, Maya and David walk through how to turn it into a recording and review tool with Jetta’s GPS On-Course Mode — from the first tee to the at-home replay.
Before you leave the house
Setup happens on wifi: open Jetta on your phone, sign in, select your course, and let it load. You’ll grant location permission once — allow precise location so positions record accurately. And before any of it touches a real round, there’s an eighteen-hole practice mode that uses simulated positions to teach you the controls. Trial runs stay on your phone; nothing uploads until you’re playing for real.
The on-course routine
At the starting tee, record your tee location, then the club and swing you intend to use. The habit is simple: position and intention before the shot, not after. If you want help thinking it through, Caddie Choices shows the available plans — pick one and Jetta saves the target, club, alternatives, and comparison as a record of what you intended. Then you still have to hit the real ball.
Walk to your ball, record the ball location — that closes the previous shot and adds the stroke — check the lie, and repeat. When the map says fairway but you’re in the rough, correct it: fairway, rough, bunker, recovery, plus rough depth or hill direction where the controls offer them. Phone GPS and mapped boundaries don’t always describe your exact situation, and your corrections are what make the record trustworthy later.
On the green and out of trouble
Select On Green to enter the putting workflow: plus-one Putt for each putt that stays out, Holed out (+1) for the one that drops — that final button already counts the last putt. Tapped something twice or picked the wrong club? Undo last fixes the most recent action, and Hole review lets you check shots, distances, clubs, putts, and score while the hole is still fresh in your memory.
When the course has no signal
After the connected setup, the round saves locally in your phone’s browser during play — no per-shot connection needed. When you finish, the completed round queues and uploads in the background; if it doesn’t complete, it stays queued for another attempt. Keep the same browser and its stored data until the upload confirms, and use Upload finished games to retry pending rounds before assuming anything is on another device.
The at-home review
Back home, sign in with the same player account, go to Player account → On-course replays, and open your round. The replay runs in Live Mode on the course map: Play/Pause to follow the sequence, Previous/Next to step shot by shot, hole to hole. If you saved a caddie plan, the review shows the decision comparison and where the ball finished relative to your target — left or right, short or long. Where no target was saved, Jetta shows “Target not recorded” rather than inventing one.
Watch with three questions: was the target sensible for your usual distance and accuracy? Did you leave enough room around the hazard? Did the result follow the plan, or did execution miss what you intended? You may find a disappointing shot began with a reasonable plan — or a good result came from a choice you wouldn’t repeat.
What GPS can’t tell you
GPS records locations and what you entered. It can show where the ball finished against a saved target, but it can’t diagnose clubface, swing path, or contact. Those questions go to your coach — and now you arrive with the actual sequence to show: the tee shot, the recovery decision, the approach. A clearer starting point than “I struggled on the fifth hole,” and one practical thing to work on next.
