Every golf coach is selling the same thing: “I’ll improve your swing.” In Episode 10 of the Jetta podcast, working golf instructor Coach Mike sits down with Jetta creator David to ask the question every coach is really thinking — what does Jetta actually do for someone like me?
Every coach is selling the same lesson
From the customer’s point of view, coaching offers look nearly identical: fix the driver, stop the slice, lower your scores. Teaching philosophies differ, but the product on the website reads the same everywhere. Jetta doesn’t claim to make anyone a better swing coach. It gives a good coach something valuable to add that most coaches don’t have.
Course management: the second teachable skill
Golfers need to learn how to hit the ball — and how to play the game. Course management, target selection, club selection, risk and reward: students face those decisions on every hole, but a driving range can’t teach them, and an eighteen-hole playing lesson for every student isn’t practical. Jetta becomes a teaching environment in between. The coach puts the student’s actual game — their clubs, their distances, their dispersion — onto a real golf course and starts asking: where are you aiming? What club? Why?
Virtual playing lessons as homework
Jetta is building toward a library of more than 4,000 real U.S. courses for strategy and virtual play. That turns the course into an assignment: a student heading to Pinehurst plays Pinehurst with the coach first; the Saturday-morning player at their home course plays the front nine in Jetta on Thursday. The lesson becomes a real course-management session — what trouble matters, what the normal miss costs, driver versus the smart play — and the student can go home and play it again. Swing drills still exist. Now there’s also a golf problem to solve.
The coach business model: $49 a month
The Jetta coach plan is $49 a month: the coach’s own access plus up to 10 sponsored student seats. Students in the program get Jetta included while they work with the coach — under five dollars per active student per month at full seats. Jetta doesn’t dictate how coaches package it: raise the program price, close one more student, keep students longer, build a premium player-development package or a tournament-prep session. The sentence every coach can put on their website: “When you coach with me, Jetta is included.”
From episodic lessons to a coaching program
Traditional coaching is episodic — lesson, silence, lesson. With Jetta in the middle, Tuesday’s lesson flows into midweek practice, an assigned virtual round, and Saturday’s real round, and the next lesson starts from something meaningful. The relationship stops feeling like isolated one-hour transactions and starts feeling like an actual program — which is far easier to market than “buy a package of ten lessons.”
